Improve Your Audio Quality and Performance with Ensoniq ES1371 AudioPCI 97 Sound Card Driver 12

I found that this driver worked under Linux quite well. However the sound itself is a little off. In order to change the output mode from STEREO to JOINT I just had to edit the es1371.snd file in /etc/modprobe.d/ and insert the directive:

ensoniq es1371 audiopci 97 sound card driver 12

The other audio cards are in much better shape when it comes to sound output. Unfortunately, they work either by default (4.1 digital mode) or don't have 4.1 digital mode (ie. Analog PCM). I have two E113 in a row which is my audio chain as well as one E113 paired with a m3U2.

I played with most of the options within windows (changed the device name and settings), yet the device wouldn't show up in device manager. I was told to connect the card to a known good monitor and back it up. I did that and tried to install the driver again. No dice. I tried with my test live CD and no sound was heard. I saw that I could change the driver to a Generic Audio device in the device manager. I tried that. No dice. It was as if the driver didn't exist at all. I tried to reboot to the test CD and still not a sound. From this point, I am totally puzzled. I went back to the live CD and inserted the original driver and tested. Once it was set to the card, it worked perfectly. It's as if my original attempt with the driver didn't work. Or did it?. I'm not sure I trust the driver list at all.

  • I believe the drivers that are currently on the Ensoniq web site are a little dated. In particular I have the following issues with the Ensoniq web site: There is no download option for the driver.

  • The documentation on the web site is not up to date. For example the DBW drivers the customers got was several years old, even though it showed up in the downloads section as if it was a recent download.

  • The web site searches for the old driver and fails to find it.

  • The drivers have not been updated to reflect current API's of the driver.

  • The web site has not been updated to reflect the release of Ensoniq Web Audio 2.0.

  • The DBW driver does not support installing the driver from a CD-ROM.
